Growing Up : In real 1Malaysia

I wrote about living with a man with different religion a while ago and this time, I'll be openly share my life with the people during my childhood until I grown up.

When I was in primary school, my neighbour was a Muslim and Buddhist family and my family is Christian. It was always fun and there was no such thing like they are non muslim and you can't go to their house, or the other way around. We lived in harmony. Every celebration was our celebration and the two aunties always lepak at our house to chit-chat with my mom. CNY, Hari Raya and Christmas was so so good. The muslim aunty had two sons and my mom used to ask me to do baking with that aunty days before Hari Raya. No pay you knowwww.. anyway, honestly I loved that assignment. I enjoyed the childhood story that shared by the muslim aunty while baking, we used to laugh in her kitchen.

The muslim friends used to come to our house and ate the food in our kitchen, their mom never get panic or angry with that. Anyway, my mom will be the one who shouted at us "Whatever non halal dont serve to themmmmm!!!" I thought that was cool, lol. As a kid, we loved to exchange the lepak place everyday and the mothers will be shouting at the top at their lung "Go home now!!!!!!! It almost dark!" Sometimes the mothers got their rotan in hand, they had this mutual understanding: your daughter or my daughter will get the rotan if they refused to go home on time hahaha

The other neighbour was cool too, every kids will get angpow during CNY, there was no exception. Aahhh memories :')

Fast forward, it was highschool years. My muslim bestie Mimie was glued with me before she moved to other school. We slept on the same bed once a while, we went for movie, scout camping etc.. Her father took us to see the eclipse in Kudat and he told his friend that his van had two seats book for her daughters. That was for me and Mimie. It was unbelievable, I do think that such relationship doesn't exist in West m'sia. Maybe it does but really rare.

Years after highschool, I was a trainee in one of the 5 star resort. I stayed with my uncle with his wife and their 3 kids. We stayed in police quarters and our unit was in the same row with Indian, Malay, Chinese, Dusun, Bajau etc etc..  Nothing had changed. We played volleyball together, visiting each other and of course Hari Raya was always fantastic. That was the year where I learnt to speak Bajau hahaha
My auntie was a homemaker and she used to sell homemade popsicles. Milo flavour, orange and the asamboi popsicles. She did it all by herself and the buyers are the kids in that quarters. Malay, Indian, bajau, chinese etc etc.. muslim non muslim, buddhist dan yg sewaktu dengannya lol!!!

If you never know, the homemade popsicle is like the above pic :D

Nowadays,  we still live in harmony but honestly, it has changed a bit.
For example two or three of my schoolmates are no longer be friends with their muslim classmates. It happened to me too. I got removed from facebook after commenting on the 'Allah' issue, and my comment was "oh why banned?!!"
Sigh..!! I miss those days.

  3. How true. I can only conclude one thing - there has to be 'outside' influence for this change to happen.

It's just unfortunate that people are getting less tolerant.

  4. All religions are here and meant to ferry the humans to the right paths. Some people changed and mixed them with politics which made everything go wrong. How sad lah.

    1. Not much now after I left Tuaran.

You're such a good person, so let it be. She got her own issue. We have 2 diff group of people around us, the positive people and the negative ones, and of course the negative types are the one that will act like your former BFF. So take it easy. Hugsssss
